REGIONAL CULTURAL CENTRE & CONFLICT TEXTILES IN COLLABORATION WITH LETTERKENNY AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL GROUP PRESENT
From Displacement to Empowerment
Arpilleras (pronounced ‘ar-pee-air-ahs’) can be simply described as three-dimensional tapestries of Latin America that originated in Chile. These became the medium for women, generally working collectively, to denounce human rights abuses and repression.
This exhibition programme is a partnership between the Regional Cultural Centre and Conflict Textiles, in collaboration with Letterkenny Amnesty International group.
Through this selection of textiles and sculpture, we are invited to reflect on the experience of refugees and asylum seekers fleeing from persecution, conflict, violence, and human rights violations.
The exhibition programme builds on previous collaborations: Chilean arpilleras (2008), War-Torn Children (2018), and Every Action Counts (2021).
