Following the success of the TG4 series, Féile Éalaíne an Earagail, aired in early 2023, Aniar TV makes a welcome return to film another four very special concerts at An Grianán Theatre, featuring some of the finest artists across the traditional music genre. The second night featured a double bill of Flook & Fidil.
With the flutes and whistles of Brian Finnegan and Sarah Allen, the guitar of Ed Boyd and the bodhran of John Joe Kelly, iconic band Flook weaves and spins traditionally rooted tunes into an enthralling sound – with agile but tight rhythms and virtuoso improvisation.
Utilising several fiddle-playing techniques such as strumming, fingerstyle and percussion, Donegal trio Fidil (Damien McGeehan, Aidan O’Donnell and Ciarán Ó Maonaigh) have a truly original, fresh and exciting sound – Music for the 21st century, mindful of its origins but breathtakingly exciting in its ambition and delivery.
