Zurich Portrait Prize

The annual competition showcasing contemporary portraiture is open to artists from across the island of Ireland, and Irish artists living abroad.

The Zurich Portrait Prize is open to artists in all disciplines who are either resident in Ireland or Irish citizens living abroad. The aim of the competition is to showcase and encourage interest in contemporary portraiture, and to raise the profile of the long-standing and constantly evolving National Portrait Collection at the National Gallery of Ireland.

This year’s exhibition features shortlisted work by Rachel Ballagh (Cork), Zsolt Basti (Dublin), Shane Blount (Wicklow), Patrick Bolger (Dublin/Wicklow), David Booth (Dublin), Enda Burke (Galway), Aisling Coughlan (Dublin), Catherine Creaney (Tyrone), David Creedon (Cork), Ian Cumberland (Down), Barry Delaney (Dublin), Aodán Feeney (Galway), Alexis Pearse Flynn (London), Vanessa Jones (Dublin), Bernadette Kiely (Kilkenny), Vera Klute (Kilkenny), Gavin Leane (Dublin), Emily McGardle (Monaghan), Fiach McGuinne (Dublin), Tom McLean (Galway), Mick O’Dea (Dublin), Liz Purtill (Kerry), Cara Rose (Dublin), Sorcha Frances Ryder (Dublin), Marie Smith, (Cavan), and Marc O’Sullivan Vallig (Cork).

This year’s winner is David Booth, for his portrait Salvatore.
