DONEGAL COUNTY MUSEUM PRESENTS
Working Over By: Donegal Emigrant Working Lives in Scotland 1940-1990
There are few families in County Donegal that have not been affected by emigration or participated in seasonal migration. Learn more about the working lives of Donegal men and women who travelled to Scotland for work between 1940 and 1990 by visiting this unique and fascinating exhibition in Donegal County Museum.
The exhibition documents the work experiences of those who undertook seasonal work, those who settled in Scotland and those who returned to Donegal in later years.
Through images, artefacts and archives the exhibition focuses on a variety of industries, occupations and workplaces relating to farms, buses, railways, building sites, engineering projects (such as tunnels, bridges, dams or hydro-electric schemes), shipbuilding, domestic service, hotels, shops, biscuit and chocolate factories, the health service, religious life, sport and teaching.
The exhibition is presented by the Culture Division of Donegal County Council in partnership with the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies as part of the implementation of the County Donegal Heritage Plan and is funded by Donegal County Council and The Heritage Council.
