NA MIC UA gCORRA, ERIÚ & KRISTYN FONTANELLA PRESENT

Steps into the Wild & Miss Mary

Set against the rugged beauty of Gola Island in the windswept northwest, Steps Into The Wild is an outdoor promenade dance performance weaving movement with the rhythms of nature, local tradition, and sustainable ways of living. Journey along the island’s pathways as dancers echo its pulse – resilient, rooted, and ever-renewing – a tribute to this remarkable place where land, sea, and story meet.

Ériu is a contemporary Irish dance company established by Gaoth Dobhair native Breandán de Gallaí in 2010. Na Mic Ua gCorra is the youth company branch, which has had a presence at the Earagail Arts Festival since 2019.

Miss Mary is an outdoor solo dance, tracing the footsteps of the traveling dance masters, where the performer migrates through parks and fields, embodying the land and its stories.

Created by dancer & choreographer Kristyn Fontanella, the piece is born from her research into her own dance lineage and heritage, reconnecting with her story and those who came before her.

The land becomes her journey, the past inhabits her movement, and memories of the dance masters are passed through her steps. As she arrives at a gathering of people, she invites them to exchange, listen, and learn the stories and steps of the past.

This intimate performance asks the audience:

Where did you come from?

How do you move?

Will you dance with me?

It is a reflection on ancestry, tradition, and the shared connection between the land, the body, and the stories that live within us all.
