Aobha Ní Aragáin, Paul Harrigan & Friends

Aobha Ní Aragáin, Paul Harrigan & Friends host a session of Irish traditional tunes and songs in The Cottage Bar. Other trad musicians – whatever your age or ability – are encouraged to come along and join in. Plus you will have the chance to speak a bit of Irish!

Aobha Ní Aragáin and Paul Harrigan are musicians local to Letterkenny with a broad musical experience.

Aobha has travelled to a variety of countries with her music from the United States to France. She has most recently represented Ireland in the Lorient Festival de Interceltique in Lorient – France, and Festival Presqu’île Breizh in Quiberon – France.

Aobha is a guitar teacher for Ceol na Coille and has also taught at workshops and festivals such as the Ceol na Coille Trad Fest. Aobha is also a member of the performance group – Coirm – which has taken part in festivals throughout Europe and also Texas and have performed commissions from Seamus McGuire, Zoe Conway, Mairead Ní Mhaonaigh and Martin Tourish.

Paul has toured with a variety of groups and genres such as Lúnasa, The Hell Fire Club with Shane McGowan- Terry Woods -The Pogues – and the legendary Ronnie Drew -The Dubliners, Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin (Ireland), Renaud Séchan, Jean-marc Padovani, Dirty Linen (France) and BlØf (Holland).

Paul set up his music school – Ceol na Coille – in 2011 and has run a successful International Summer School annually in Letterkenny, drawing students from around the world.

As well as being a sought after studio artist, Paul’s solo album of Uilleann Pipe music – Music from The White Stone – was released in 2019 and features Tim Edey on guitar and Inishowen musicians, Roisin McGrory and Joleen McLaughlin.

A second album – Seven Waves – was released in early summer 2021 and is scored for Uilleann Pipes and two violins.

Líonra Leitir Ceanainn is the lead organisation with responsibility for putting the strategic Irish language plan for Letterkenny as a Gaeltacht Service Town into effect.

Funded by Foras na Gaeilge, Líonra LC provides classes, events for families, social opportunities and community events as well as support and advice for businesses and organisations that would like to use more Irish and benefit from the evident Irish language buzz in the area.
